Assurance of salvation depends on three things:
we must understand that Christ has done a perfect job of saving us; our Christian experience will confirm that we have a living relationship with Christ; and we believe the promises that God has given us. If we are the Lord's sheep we will know his voice (John 10: 4, 5, 27) When a person becomes a Christian they have two kinds of life available to them. Eternal life (John 3: 16) and abundant life (John 10: 10); eternal life is eternal while we can choose how much of the abundant life we want to experience by being more or less submitted to God. Some people make an emotional decision to follow Christ without admitting they are a sinner and repenting of their sin; these people have never really believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and are not really saved. |
