History
Emmaus Correspondence courses were introduced in Australia in the early 1950s. The provision of correspondence courses had been the vision of a young missionary from the United States, Dr Ed Harlow, who founded Emmaus Correspondence School when he returned home after a term on the mission field.
Soon after the Correspondence School was established, Mr Gordon Blair had the vision of a residential Bible School. In 1958, property was purchased in Ray Road, Epping. Emmaus began its teaching program in 1959.
When Emmaus Bible College began, the vision was to prepare young people for overseas missionary service or for lay ministry within Christian Brethren assemblies. Although over the years different programs have been followed. We want Christians to be effective in their witness within their local churches, working together with other members of the body of Christ in reaching non-Christians with the gospel and encouraging one another to continue in the faith.
